Fred: I love this picture. Our very first radio festival when “Jenny” hit big around spring of ‘96. We rode that one for almost a whole year to the end of ‘97. There were lots of these types of shows later on, but I remember this first one because I have a very distinct memory of a giant dirt cloud that rose from the audience when we started playing our hit and everyone went nuts.
This picture brings to mind the first time I experienced Cowboy Mouth at Atlanta 96 Olympics when Fred climbed the speaker tower....no cell phone to capture, but it is etched in my mind. Been an avid CM fan since.
I first saw CM at Dotfest in Ankeny Iowa. Sometime in the summer or 96 or maybe 97. "Jenny" was getting played a lot at the time, and CM was the band I was most excited to see. Way more than a lot of the headliners. Slipknot was the first act (they were from the area and had won a battle of the bands), Jill Sobule was my other favorite on the bill, and The Bloodhound Gang was the headliner. Cowboy Mouth was the standout by 40 miles. That picture was not from that show, but it could have been. Fred was an animal that day!
I saw Cowboy Mouth around this time at a music festival (The Big Mele?) in Hawaii. The scheduled headliners (Smash Mouth, I think) were a no show and Cowboy Mouth were by far the best show of the day.
I know a band that did a great song about flight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KMKAsFpmJ4
