Thunder In The Building
A funny story / compliment a former manager just sent me…
“A week ago I went to see Springsteen at Madison Square Garden. The crowd reacted as they do for a Bruce show. A couple of times the floor was bouncing!
That reminded me of years ago when Cowboy Mouth played Madison Square Garden, opening for Barenaked Ladies. I went down to the basement office to check the financial settlement. As The Mouth played upstairs there was a terrible racket above us, as if there was actual thunder in the building. It felt like the whole place was going to collapse!
The promoter was clearly scared and said that maybe we should evacuate the building. Barenaked Ladies’ tour manager didn’t flinch from what he was doing. He simply said ‘Oh, that’s Fred. He does that to the crowd every night.’”

I appreciate BNL all the more after that story! It's a great band that will let the opener run wild!
I recently heard the story of Kansas opening for Aerosmith in Kansas in the 70s. Kansas was so good, Aerosmith tried to pull the plug - literally.
Luckily, Kansas knew Aerosmith's ethics and had dummy cords running all over the place. Pulling the plug didn't work.
