Covering REM with Collective Soul, Hootie, Gin Blossoms
Collective Soul covering REM's "The One I Love" with Fred on drums, Mark Bryan from Hootie & the Blowfish on guitar, and Robin Wilson from Gin Blossoms on vocals at HootieFest: The Big Splash.
And points to Collective Soul bassist Will Turpin for handling the underlying chorus vocals (sung on the original REM version by Mike Mills) that some people forget to include. As the band and the crowd sing, “Fire!”, you can hear Will singing, “She's comin' down on her own, now.”
All of these bands have been inspired and influenced by REM. Do you remember that awards show back in the 90s when Hootie paused in the middle of “Only Wanna Be With You” to toast REM?
